As Maharshi Patanjali said in his great commentary -

There are 21 branches. The Yajurveda consists of 101 branches, the Samaveda 10 branches and the Atharvaveda 9 branches. Taken together, the total number of platforms is 1131.

Similarly, the Gnostic scholars have given different explanations of the Vedas' branches: According to the Sarvanakuranika, the Vedasakas are 1137. According to the Kurmapurana, 1130, the Charana Vyasa has suggested 1117 branches. How many of these 1131 branches are available today? This for detail

Out of all these, only 5 Schools are available to us as of today.

In grammar, Wadi wrote a collection of one lakh verses. There are as many passages as the Yaska scriptures. There were still ten grammars, like the Ashtadhyayi scripture. But not all of them exist today either.

Universities like Nalanda, Vikramashila and Takshashila had large libraries. Along with their extinction, the entire library and corpus of knowledge was lost.

History states that in the invasion of Bakitiyar Khilji, in AD 1195, three vast libraries of the University of Nalanda were burned. The resounding silence of this fire is conspicuous even today.

Many of the rare texts (including several palm leaf manuscripts) were carried abroad. It is impossible to estimate their numbers. Thus our own tremendous wealth continues to slowly perish today. We are blissfully unaware of it!!

Help us rebuild this legacy - brick by brick, and join us in preserving this ancient and divine corpus. Let us light the lamp of knowledge in our minds first and foremost.
